The final whistle that confirmed a 1-1 draw in the Premier League between Manchester United and Arsenal brought with it multiple unwanted statistics for the under pressure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian, whose team were without Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw and big-summer signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka, has presided over the club’s worst ever start to a Premier League season. They have also taken 49 points from the 28 Premier League fixtures he has overseen – two fewer than during predecessor Jose Mourinho’s final 28. Arsenal’s total of five shots on target was the highest they have recorded in a league fixture at Old Trafford in more than 10 years and, for the first time since January 2000, when these two clubs were English football’s greatest powers, they are unbeaten in successive league fixtures there. Scott McTominay’s goal on the stroke of half-time had put them on course for victory, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s latest finish ensured both teams dropped points, and therefore fell further behind league leaders Liverpool and defending champions Manchester City.
