UEFA Champions semi final 1st Leg, May 1 2019

Barcelona 3Liverpool 0

Suárez (26)
Messi (75, 82)

Liverpool's hopes of reaching a second successive Champions League final were dealt a near fatal blow at the Camp Nou, where two more finishes from Lionel Messi took his total at Barcelona to a remarkable 600. Jürgen Klopp's team were largely competitive against the competition favourites, but they fell behind when their former forward Luis Suárez was played through by Jordi Alba and superbly struck beyond Alisson. If Liverpool appeared capable of securing an equalising goal – both Sadio Mané and James Milner had fine opportunities to score – Messi's first, with 15 minutes to go and into a near-open goal, took a draw beyond their reach. The Argentinian scored again late on, and even more impressively, when he curled an astonishing free-kick into the top left corner, leaving Barca's visitors with an intimidating deficit to attempt to overcome in the second leg at Anfield.
